Clark McClure

Clark McClure passed away peacefully in his home with loved ones by his side on Thursday September 22.

A long-time resident of Tuftonboro, New Hampshire, where he moved in 1986,  he was active in his community and church. Clark volunteered for 17 years at Lakes Region Hospice, many years with Meals on Wheels and acted as an Ombudsmen for New Hampshire Nursing Homes. He was also a long-term member of Rotary Club, joining first in Hampton, NH, where he was a charter member, and later in Wolfeboro.

Clark was a member of the Wolfeboro Congregational Church and later joined the Melvin Village Community Church, where he served as a Deacon. Prior to moving to Tuftonboro, Mr. McClure lived in Hampton, New Hampshire for more than a decade.

Clark was born in Huntington, West Virginia, the sixth child of Orca and Morton McClure, on August 30, 1931.  Following graduation from high school, he moved to California in 1949, where he worked as a hand on a ranch owned by his sister, Dixie, and her husband, Andy Kamp.  While in California, he attended Grant College, where he earned an Associate’s degree, and the University of California at Davis.

When the Korean War started, Clark enlisted in the United States Navy Air Corp. as an aviator and served in the South Pacific as a carrier pilot.  After honorably being discharged, he joined Eastern Airlines in 1957 and flew for that organization until he retired as a captain in 1987.  During his time away from flying, he enjoyed golf, hiking, skiing, gardening and community service.

Clark is survived by Barbara, his wife of 63 years, and his children: William and his wife Susan (Jircik); Cathy Lamey and her husband Jack, and Andrew McClure and his wife Lori (Robinson); and seven grandchildren: Morgan, Amelia, Lily, Ethan, Henry, James and Camille.

Through his family and extensive volunteering and service to his community, Clark lived his life according to his favorite bible verse, Matthew 25:40, which states: “And the King will answer them, Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.”

A celebration of Clark’s life will be held at the Melvin Center Community Church on October 9 at 11:30 am.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Melvin Center Community Church Feet for Fuel program at 3 Lake Road, Melvin Village, NH 03254.
