Claude L. Gillaspie (Gill) 87 of Derry, NH died suddenly Friday, February 17, 2012 at his home at Windham Terrace, Windham, NH. Previously he had been a resident of Raymond, NH and Chelmsford, MA. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor M. (Peterson) Gillaspie in 2003.
Gill was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on October 5, 1924, son of Claude L. Gillaspie, Sr. and Carrie (Wilmer) Gillaspie.
Gill was enlisted in the Navy just prior to the beginning of WWII and served in both the European and Pacific Theaters as a Torpedoman on the destroyer, the USS Trippe. He remained in the Navy for a career and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1961. This was followed by a career with MIT Lincoln Laboratories until his retirement as a Staff Engineer in 1987.
He is survived by his son Richard F. Gillaspie and wife Marsha of Derry, Craig L. Gillaspie and wife Michelle of Spring, TX and his grandchildren, Allison Gillaspie Williams and husband Steven of Blacksburg, VA, Stephanie G. Gillaspie of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Christopher L. Gillaspie and wife Ashley, Spring, TX, Tracy M. Gillaspie of Spring, TX, great-granddaughter, Avery Gillaspie of Spring, TX and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation Society if New Hampshire is in charge of the arrangements.
Arrangements:
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 25, 2012, St. Peters Episcopal Church, corner of Mammoth Road and 3 Peabody Row, Londonderry, NH. Interment will follow at Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, MA.
