Clifford J. Cyr, Methuen MA, also formerly from Salem, NH, North Andover, MA, and Lawrence, MA, passed away peacefully on June 11th 2025 at Nevins Nursing Home in Methuen, MA after a period of declining health.
Known to most as Cliff, he was born on October 13th, 1929 to Flavie and Erick Cyr of Van Buren, ME. He spent most his time in the woods working as a lumberjack at a young age to help support his family. Cliff's hard work and perseverance helped him grow into a man who was as strong as an ox and just as stubborn.
He joined the Army and was stationed in Germany, where he also sang, played guitar, and harmonica in the Army Band. He was part of the 10th Infantry Division, stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. He served in the Korean Conflict, was deployed to Germany, and received an honorable discharge for 8 years of service on March 3rd,1961. He also received a Sharp Shooter medal, specializing in artillery, firing all kinds of guns such as the rifle, machine gun, bazooka, mortar, etc.
He always loved music, especially country music, including Roy Acuff, Charlie Pride, Loretta Lynn, and Glen Campbell to name a few. Every Saturday evening he could be seen in his favorite recliner watching Lawrence Welk with Georgette and sometimes enjoying a cocktail of his favorite Canadian whiskey, Crown Royal. Cliff would lend his snowplowing services for the town of North Andover, MA, and vividly remembering details of the perilous Blizzard of '78.
Cliff met and married his sweetheart Georgette (Bernier) on June 5th, 1955. after going out on a double date at a roller skating rink with his twin brother, Alfred. He was married to Georgette for 67 years, producing four children and enjoying her wonderful "French style" cooking every single day.
Among Cliff's other pleasures in life were his love for hunting and fishing. He was very happy and proud to bring home food for his family. He also enjoyed going dancing every weekend with Georgette at the local dance hall, both getting all dressed up in snazzy attire.
Cliff's top accomplishment in life was being a career carpenter by trade. He owned his own carpentry business, specializing in custom work. He was meticulous in his work and his customers would ask for him by name, knowing he would do nothing short of top-notch work. He was brought to several areas for his job, more recently working in Boston. Cliff was extremely proud of his work and especially proud of providing for his family. He put his God given talent to good use, also teaching his sons about specialized trade skills. He was never one to shy away from a challenge, and would put his woodworking skill and precision to the test by making finely crafted hardwood spiral staircases. Cliff's catchphrase, "Have no fear, Cliff is here!" could often be heard when he arrived to help solve a problem.
Cliff was predeceased by loving wife Georgette on December 21st, 2022, his youngest son, Clifford Jr., in May of 1978, his twin brother Alfred in 2019, and his sisters Corrine, Lorraine, and Lillian.
He leaves behind his eldest son Stephen (Jennifer) of Nevada City, CA, his son Daniel (Sandra) Cyr of Sandown, NH, his daughter Julie (Gary) Pomerleau of Rochester , NH, and his three grandchildren, Katherine, Michelle, and Desiree.
His friendly smile, curly locks of hair, and sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew him. Cliff had a busy, fulfilled, and long life of 95 and a half years. He was very open about his faith in God, previously attending St. Monica's Church in Methuen, MA and St. Michael's Parish in North Andover, MA.
Cliff's family would like to send out a special thanks to all of the staff, nurses, and nurses' aides at both Nevin's Nursing Home, and Methuen Village Assisted Living, both in Methuen, MA, for their kind and tender loving care to Clifford.
A celebration of life will be held in Cliff's memory on Wednesday, July 2, with a gathering from 11:00am to 12:00pm, and service to follow, at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire on 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH.
