Clifford R. Martel

Clifford Martel Jr., "KJ," 79, of Weare, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on May 3, at Pine Rock Manor in Warner.

Cliff was born in Manchester, Connecticut, on October 4, 1941, to Helen Gove Martel and Clifford Martel Sr. He was predeceased by his parents and his younger brother, Peter Martel. He is survived by his two children, Kelley Martel, 50 and Ben Martel, 36 .

Cliff grew up in Goffstown, New Hampshire, skiing on the local slopes and playing in the Contoocook River and on the old covered bridge. He attended GHS and graduated in 1959. He majored in English at New England College, which gave him a good foundation for his work in Boston, Massachusetts, as a copywriter, and his work for Weston Associates in Bedford, New Hampshire, as a copy director. Manchester, New Hampshire was where he created the Woodstove Directory Magazine and later, Chimney Relining International, which helped to ensure the safety of many New England homes.

Cliff spent his final years on Lake Horace, where he cherished sharing his spot with everyone who came his way. He enjoyed hosting dock gatherings and boat rides around the lake and simple, peaceful moments, sitting with dear friends, watching the mist. He loved creating memorable, joyful, magical experiences for others, from creative cards to talking presents to treasure hunts. Helping others and making others laugh with his unique humor and perspective made him happy.

He was a human of immense creativity, talent and vast array of interests, from music—playing the guitar, keyboard and flute—to creating the businesses formerly mentioned, to his studies of spirituality and intuition. His passion for dowsing led him to being the editor of the Society of Dowsers Journal, as well as a co-creator of the New Earth Institute.

He loved words and was an avid reader, writer and philosopher. And it can't be forgotten that he was a sailor and a lover of the ocean.
