Colette L. (Paradise) Sandstrom, age 69, died May 19, 2019, at the Bedford Hills Center in Bedford NH after suffering a spinal cord injury in January of 2018 that left her paralyzed. That and a long and courageous battle of over thirty years with multiple sclerosis. In spite of that, she was a valiant and indefatigable spirt who possessed a great love of life.
Colette was born August 21, 1949 in Nashua, NH, daughter of Ernest A. and Theresa A. Paradise.
She was the wife Kenneth E. (Rick) Sandstrom for forty-two years, residing in Candia, NH. They were married in Nashua, NH 1977.
Colette graduated from Nashua High School. Class of 1967, and worked for approximately twenty years at Raytheon Corporation as executive secretary. She was forced to retire in 1990 when diagnosed with MS that made it impossible for her to continue working.
Even with the progression and challenges of MS, Colette continued to be activate. She loved to shop, cook, create crafts and art projects, bake and decorate cakes, go to the theater, go to the beach, ride motorcycles, 4-wheelers, snowmobiles, play at casinos, take road trips. She created her own adventures wherever she went. She mentored many, entertained all, laughed, and shared her uplifting personality with great generosity towards others. At home, Colette and her husband, Rick, had numerous dogs (always two at a time) and provided a loving home for each pair in their own turn.
Colette was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Pierre "Peter" G. Paradise.
She is survived by her loving family, her husband, Rick of Candia, NH; her sister Suzette Brown of Ocala, FL; her three nephews Keven C. Brown of Greenville, NH, Keith (Bubba) Brown of Prescott, AZ, and Kent and his wife Tina Brown from Milford, NH; three grand nieces, Bianca, Hannah, and Kylee Brown and several cousins. Colette also left friends wherever she went and a cadre of close and devoted friends with whom she had a very special relationships.
Abiding by Colette's wishes, there will be no calling hours and no formal services at this time. She will be interred at the convenience of her family at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy Rte 3, Boscawen, NH 03303 at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to MS Society, ASPCA, Spinal Cord Injury foundation/Christopher Reeves Foundation, your favorite charity or send to Kenneth Sandstrom, P.O. Box 116, 72 Baker Rd., Candia, NH 03034.
