Dale A. Berry

Dale A Berry, 82 passed on February 27th 2025 of an illness at Baystate Franklin hospital. Born in Lyndonville, Vermont on September 25th 1942 to Maynard and Arlene (Jesseman) Berry. He was one of 11 brothers and sisters. Growing up in Vermont, he went to Squabble Hollow School. His family moved to the Athol-Royalston area where he graduated from Athol highschool in 1961. He served in the Army, a Vietnam war veteran. He worked at the shoe shop in Athol, Northfield mountain, and the Boston & Maine railroad. The railroad changed names a few times before he retired as a track Foreman. He made many friends working on the railroad, a lot of whom he thought of as family. He moved to Winchester, New Hampshire in the late 1980s with his family, where he stayed for many years. There he was once a volunteer in the fire department, a member of the VFW and part of Horseshoe League. You would also see him pumping gas from time to time at J&G's garage with his brother-in-law George. In 2022 he and his wife bought a house in Greenfield, Mass with his daughter Janet and granddaughter's Crystal and Rebecca. Where they all did their best to take care of Dale in his final years.

Dale is very fondly remembered. He is known for always making you feel welcome. He was always one for lending a hand, a strong shoulder, and a good laugh. He was always right there to help when someone needed it. Bringing his granddaughters to the father-daughter dances, helping people move, splitting wood, bringing cans of fuel if you were low on oil, bringing someone food, among many things. He would approach whoever looked alone or bored at a function, offering a beer or getting them out on the dance floor. So many considered him their favorite. Dale was the family Rock. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was almost always at family events, birthdays, local functions, and just being where the fun was. He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as camping, jeeping, fishing, snowmobiling, horseshoes, fairs, and racing events. He enjoyed “puttering around the yard “ with his little dogs by his side. He loved westerns, country music, and playing cards. He was up for almost anything. Dale had such a way about himself that words cannot express. He will live on in our hearts, our memories, and our smiles.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Evelyn ( Morse ) Berry, his daughter Janet (Berry) Fahlbeck, his sons Kurt, Wayne and Clinton, his stepson Kevin Maynard, 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, his in-laws Carl ( Diane) Morse, George Morse, Carol (Mike) Primus, Gary Morse, Thelma ( William) Gravel, Charles Morse Jr., Linda Morse, several nieces and nephews, and his loyal dog Pepper.

He was predeceased by his parents, Maynard and Arlene (Jesseman) Berry, sibling and their spouses, Russell (Patricia) Berry, Ralph (Glennice) Berry, Barbara (Nelson) Lewis, Sandra (Franklin) Savage, Linda ( Gerald) Hobbs, Gloria ( Gerald) Brown, Janet ( Benedict) Rustausky, Priscilla ( Charles) LaGrand and infant brothers Roland and Ernest, his stepson Joseph Maynard, two grandchildren and one great grandson, in-laws Charles and Evelyn Morse, Charles (Heidi) Morse the third, Wayne ( Pamela) Morse, Raymond Morse, and William Morse.
