Daniel (Endry) Ramon Torres, 76, of Manchester, NH, passed away at his home, on August 9, 2024.
Dan was born in Manati, Puerto Rico on September 3, 1947. Dan served in the US Army. He was a decorated Korean Veteran having been awarded an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal as well as a Silver Star Medal.
During his military service, Dan embarked on his martial arts journey in Korea, a passion he continued to pursue upon returning to Boston, MA. Following his honorable discharge, he became the owner and operator of United Studios and then Torres Studios of Self Defense in Manchester, NH, where he spent most of his life. Dan dedicated 20 years to teaching and perfecting his craft. A Grand Master in multiple martial arts disciplines, Dan earned the prestigious rank of 8th-degree black belt. Afterward, he transitioned to a distinguished career as a Corrections Officer for the state of New Hampshire. Nearly 21 years later, he retired as a captain from the NH Department of Corrections.
Beyond his dedication to his career, Dan was celebrated for his vibrant personality and diverse interests, fondly known as the king of dad jokes bringing laughter to everyone around him. He also had a knack for reading tarot cards, a deep love for plants, and a talent for cooking. His kitchen was open to all, where he delighted in preparing meals, especially for his family and beloved ‘adoptive babies. Dan's warmth, kindness, and generosity touched everyone around him, and his infectious laugh could light up any room. His family and friends were the center of his world, and he cherished them with all his heart, always bringing joy and laughter to their lives. .
Dan was predeceased by his mother Sara Reyes Torres and his sister Esther Milagros “Millie” Portalatin.
Dan is survived by his daughter Angela Blanchette Torres, son Dustin Torres, daughter Cate Torres Coombs and husband Matt Coombs, and his beloved grandchildren Bret Blanchette, Tiffany Blanchette, Henry Torres, Brody Coombs, and Eliana Coombs.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial gathering at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, located at 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH, beginning at 10AM on August 30, 2024. A memorial service will follow beginning promptly at 12PM.
