David Hanchett of Concord, NH died Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Granite VNA Hospice House after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. David was born on September 25, 1944 in Claremont, NH. He was the son of Robert and Arlene Hanchett.
At a young age, David moved to Concord, NH with his parents and resided there for the rest of his life. As a young boy, David enjoyed playing baseball and exploring the woods of Concord. He graduated from Concord High School and received his bachelor’s degree in business from Nichols College. After college, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Germany and Greenland from 1966-1971, receiving an honorable discharge.
After his time in the military, David began working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Hampshire. After more than 30 years with the company, he retired in 2001. David served on the Board of Directors for Service Credit Union for 25 years, including chairing the Supervisory Committee and various other positions and subcommittees. David was an avid coin collector and gardener. While his accomplishments were numerous, where he really shined was as the proud grandfather of Alexandra and Garrett. His grandchildren will always remember the love and attention he gave them, including trips for pad thai, fishing, visits to the farm, and frog hunting.
David is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter Pamela, Mathews and her husband Don; his daughter, Mary Hanchett and her husband, Steve LaClair; his granddaughter, Alexandra Smallwood and her husband Nicholas and their daughter, Zoe; and his grandson, Garrett Mathews.
ARRANGEMENTS: David will be interned at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen on May 10, 2023 at 2pm. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
