David Hauger

David Hauger, 82 of Lyme, NH passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, VT with his daughter at his side, after a short period of declining health. 

Dave was born on November 2, 1941, in Paterson, NJ to Oscar and Sarah (Finucan) Hauger. Dave attended schools in Ridgewood, NJ. After high school he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Proteus.  

After the Navy he worked a variety of jobs including working for Ford Motor Company in their NJ assembly plant until moving to Thetford, Vermont where his parents and siblings were living. There he started his first business, Cleansweep Chimney Service.

He sold his chimney sweeping supplies in 1973 and began plumbing and electrical work full time with a new business venture, Dave’s Electrical and Plumbing. He would operate in both trades until 1993, when he retired his electrical license and shifted the business focus to Plumbing & Heating. He operated for over 50 years until April 2024 when his health forced him to retire.

In Vermont Dave would meet and marry the love of his life Betty Carvey. They married in 1973 and moved into a house they built in Thetford where they would raise their family. 

Dave loved a good laugh. His strong voice and chuckle were familiar to many customers, friends, acquaintances and family. 

Dave was full of heart and a helper by nature. He was a member of the Thetford Lions Club and always loved cooking chickens at the Thetford Hill Fair. He was always willing to help people with plumbing issues, regardless of their ability to pay.

Dave was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Sarah (Sally) Hauger, brother Richard Hauger, and life partner Elizabeth Hauger. He leaves behind his sister Lois Wiggin (Buddy) of West Fairlee, VT his children; Lisa Keating (Tim) of Cedar Park, TX, Marc Hauger (Anne) of Missoula, MT and Sarah Pushee (Scott) of Bradford, VT, and Grandchildren 

Interment will be on June 30th at 10am at the Evergreen Rest cemetery, Thetford Center, VT with reception to follow at the Thetford Community Center. Family and friends are invited to attend.
