David P Nigro

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Patrick Nigro, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Known affectionately as “Super Dave,” he left this world peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 78 surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on June 4, 1947, in Needham, Massachusetts, to Lawrence and Sophie Nigro and resided in the town for most of his life. Even from an early age he was always working, creating, and tinkering. In the winters he loved sledding with his toboggan.

David proudly served in the United States Army, where he fixed helicopters during his time stationed in Italy and at Fort Devens. After returning from military service, he worked for the Needham DPW, then the Needham Fire Department as a firefighter, and a proud union member of Local 1706 where his bravery, dedication and sense of humor left an indelible mark on the community and his fellow firefighters until his retirement in 2009.

On June 15, 1983, David married the love of his life, Suzanne Levis. Together, they created a home that was fun, loving and a bit unconventional. When he was not working at the fire station David was moonlighting as a painter or involved in a project around his home. He could often be found splitting and stacking wood to burn for the winter months.

David had a generous spirit and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was able to find joy in the simplest of things. Searching for secondhand treasures was one of his favorite pastimes. During his retirement he volunteered at the Needham transfer station where he enjoyed finding items for friends and family. He would also collect metal to weld into unique sculptures that he proudly displayed on his lawn for all to enjoy. His distinctive yard was even featured on Channel 5’s Chronicle.

David was a television afficionado and loved watching Jerry Springer and other daytime talk shows. You may even catch him in the audience if you see a rerun! He was also an avid wrestling fan and could name all the wrestlers and their histories with ease. His family likes to think he was one of the first to create a “man cave” in his home where he would enjoy his shows on multiple televisions at once. He also loved watching and playing sports. He played hockey in his younger years and later coached the “High Life’s” softball team, leading them through a winning season.

Super Dave was a maverick and trying to describe his life and the impact he had on his family, friends and community is impossible. We hope that those who know him will be able to join us for a celebration of life, where we can share stories, laughter and memories of David. More details regarding a memorial will be available in the coming weeks. Perhaps, we can finally answer David’s enduring question, “What are you a cop?”

David is survived by his devoted wife, Suzanne Nigro and their two daughters, Cheyanne and her husband Gandhi Gracia of Greenfield, MA, and Leah and her husband Dave Nilson of Greenfield, MA; His oldest and only son, Joshua Nigro and wife Laurie of Plymouth, MA, and his daughter Vanessa and her husband Will Halby of Bristol, VT. David also had eight beautiful grandchildren, Cassandra Nigro, Addison, Jade, Julian and Maeve Halby, River and Saria Gracia and Lily Nilson. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers, Larry Nigro of Manchester, NH, and Richard Nigro of Barrington, NH, and his sister, Vicki Carpenger of Longwood, FL.

David will be deeply missed, but his determination, kindness, and tremendous spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love of his parents and the memories he created throughout his life.
