David W. Powell

David Walter Powell, age 93, died peacefully at home on June 14th, 2025 in the arms of Elaine, his loving wife of 70 years. David was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, to Walter E. Powell and Ella Marie Duprey on August 11,1931.

David graduated from Purdue University and Harvard Business School, and served in the United States Coast Guard. He had a successful career with Polaroid Corporation, working in Cambridge Massachusetts as well as in Helensburgh Scotland.

David and Elaine Dustin Green were married in Framingham, Massachusetts, and raised their three children in Concord Massachusetts. He built much of their family cottage on Lake Wicwas in Meredith, New Hampshire where he taught his family to sail and ski, and where his family still spends many happy days.

David was an accomplished musician on both trumpet and French horn. He held the position of Principal Horn with the Concord (Massachusetts) Orchestra for many years, and performed solo concertos with the orchestra. An Eagle Scout, David was also a Scout Master for Troop 131 in Concord.

David loved the ocean and could be found on the water throughout his life, sailing as a youth in Pittsfield, commanding a Coast Guard cutter on the Atlantic Ocean, fishing and water skiing on Lake Wicwas, and sailing the New England coastline from Nantucket to Bar Harbor in his sailboat, Kestrel, with family and friends.

David was a devoted husband and father; he is survived by his wife, son Glen and his wife Jackie (Rose) Powell, son Scott and his wife Linda (Willard) Powell, daughter Linda Diane Hammill and her husband Thomas, seven grandchildren, two granddaughters-in-law, and one great-grandson, all of whom will forever cherish him for his love, kindness, and generosity.

A private service will be held at Oakland Cemetery overlooking Lake Wicwas in Meredith, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hampshire Food Bank or the Lake Wicwas Association. The Cremation Society of NH is assisting the family with arrangements. To view an online memorial, leave a message of condolence, or for more information please visit https://csnh.com/
