David Richer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on February 13, 2024 of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, David Michael Richer. David was diagnosed with cancer only two weeks before he died but he had been struggling with COPD for many years. While we are heartbroken by his loss, we are relieved that his battle is over. We are thankful that he is now with his beautiful daughter, Courtney, who died this past September.

David was born in South Burlington, Vermont on December 30, 1957 to Henry J. Richer and Nancy E. (Roche) Richer. After residing for a short time in Massachusetts and Maryland, our family moved to Merrimack NH where he lived for many years until settling with his family in Goffstown. There, he and his wife, Cindy, raised their children, Jeremy and Courtney.

David worked for many years as an auto body repairman. He was known for his extreme attention to detail—he was not satisfied with a piece until it was perfect. During his leisure time he enjoyed riding his Harley, boating, hunting, and fishing. He spent many summers on Sebec Lake in Maine as a child and Squam Lake in New Hampshire as an adult. These places were always special to him and were where some of the best memories of his life happened.

It was on Squam Lake that he and his brother-in-law, Grant, and nephew, Nate, proudly won the Great Rotary Ice Fishing Derby in 1998.

Anyone who knew David could tell you that he was often ornery and cranky, but that he loved his family and friends with all his heart. As is often the case, when David got older it became a little easier for him to express love and appreciation. We will all cherish our last conversations with him when the words “I love you” weren’t difficult for any of us.

As David’s time grew short, we talked about the loved ones he would soon be with: his daughter, Courtney, our parents, our grandparents, our cousin, Tommy, his brother-in-law, Grant, and all the others who passed before. We asked him to get things ready for those of us left behind: son, Jeremy; granddaughter, “Punkin” Gabrielle; beloved ex-wife, Cindy; son-in-law Nick; two sisters, Karen (Dennis) Bourgeois of Manchester and Diane (Russ) Skellie of Johnsburg, NY; two brothers, Scott Richer of Manchester and Mark (Leah) Richer of Nashua; and aunt, Theresa Drouin of Vermont; as well as nieces and nephews,  Alisha, Timothy, Nathaniel, Juliana, Brittney, Corinne, and Nicholas; grand nieces and nephews, Ava, Aiden, Dylan, Theodore, and Isobel; and several cousins.

We fervently hope that David is now feeling the love and acceptance he always wanted and deserved.
