David S. Sykes, 77, of 647 Maple St. passed away peacefully at home on February 25th after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born in New Bedford, MA, July 13, 1929, to Mildred (Sharples) and James Sykes. He served in the U.S Air Force during the Korean War. He lived in Cape Cod before moving with his wife Ann to Higganum, CT where he spent 25 years working as a repairman at Sears & Roebuck and raising his family. In 1989, he retired from Sears and bought Apple Hill Campground in Bethlehem, NH. He spent 18 years working with his family on the campground and building a wonderful business that epitomizes his love of family and family values. In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, Ann Sykes, the family includes his three children: David J. Sykes of Wallingford, CT; Robert M. Sykes and daughter Barbara J. Sykes both of Bethlehem, NH; brother James Sykes of Harwich, MA; and sister, Barbara J. Sykes of New Bedford, MA, niece and two nephews SERVICES: A memorial service will be held on March 10, at 3:00 at the Durrell United Methodist Church on Main St., Bethlehem. The service will be followed by a gathering of friends and family at the Mulburn Inn (Main St. Bethlehem). A private burial will be held at a later time.
