David Baxter Whitfield

David Baxter Whitfield, aged 78, passed away peacefully at Merrimack County Nursing Home. 

Born on October 28, 1945, in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the youngest of three sons born to the late William Whitfield and Janet Baxter Whitfield.

He was predeceased by his oldest brother William (Bob) Robert Whitfield of Keene, NH. He leaves behind his two children, Eric Whitfield and his wife Melissa Whitfield of Wellington, New Zealand, and his daughter Melissa Lee of Franklin, NH. David was a proud grandfather to Willow, Tallulah and Ava Whitfield of Wellington, New Zealand. David is also survived by his brother Douglas Whitfield and his wife Elena of Manchester, NH; his sister in law, Maureen Whitfield of Keene, NH along with many beloved nieces and nephews. 

David graduated from high school in Franklin Township, New Jersey. He had a successful career as a glazier and worked in various locations including Chicago and Boston. He was a passionate fan of team sports with a particular love for New England teams including the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed card games, especially cribbage, and had an interest in military history and Western films. He enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Maine, taking the kids for boat rides on the lake and bringing laughter to the family dinner table.  

David will be remembered for his pride and love of family, his sense of humor, and the firmest handshake known to many. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. A private committal service and celebration of life will be held by the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Merrimack County Nursing Home Resident Trust Fund for the Young Adult Unit.
