Dennis Arthur Knowles
Dennis Arthur Knowles, 74, of Franklin, NH passed away unexpectedly at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center in Boston, MA following a period of declining health. He was surrounded by the love of his family.
Dennis was born in Newburyport, MA on October 6, 1941 to Arthur Lawrence and Marian Virginia (Yell) Knowles. He was raised in Seabrook, NH and was a member of the first graduating class of Winnacunnet High School in Hampton in 1959. Dennis enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country while stationed in Italy. It was during this time when he developed a love of skiing and smoking a pipe. Upon honorable discharge from the military, Dennis attended Plymouth State College, earning a bachelor's degree in History in 1970. Dennis quickly fell in love with the beauty of central and northern New Hampshire and so decided to stay for the rest of his life. Dennis' passions were history and animals. He was a member of the NH Post Card Society, he had an extensive collection of historical ephemera, and he volunteered at the Franklin Animal Shelter, spending time caring for newly surrendered animals.
Dennis is survived by his life partner, Kathleen F. Addessi. Together, they made a wonderful home for themselves and their menagerie of animal friends, both wild and domestic. Dennis also leaves behind Kathleen's daughter, Catherine Guinevere Boisvert and husband, Kevin Flanders of Alexandria, NH; his brother, Dana L. Knowles and wife, Deborah J. Knowles and his sister, Debra A. Knowles, all of Seabrook, NH; five nieces and nephews, Lori A. Scott of Rochester, NH, and Jason L. Knowles, Stephanie J. Rowe, Adam M. Knowles, and Amanda E. Young, all of Seabrook, NH.
Cemetery committal with military honors will take place Monday, April 11, 2016 at 2:00pm at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dennis' memory may be made to the Franklin Animal Shelter online at www.franklinanimalshelter.com.
