Desmond John Oakes, 66 years old, Nashua, NH died on June 25, 2008 at Southern Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He attended Immaculate Conception in Nashua. Desmond proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and retired from service in 1977 with the rank of Petty Officer First Class. After his retirement, he received his Masters in Vocational Rehabilitation from the University of Maine at Orono. He worked as a counselor at Bangor Mental Health for many years. After retiring from the field he moved to Nashua where resided and work as a real estate agent. He is predeceased by his parents Desmond L. Oakes and Diana (Petit) Oakes, his ex-wife, Loretta Oakes-Bryant and a daughter Donna Oakes. He is survived by his ex-wife Nancy Oakes of Old Town, ME; a daughter Diana Kent of Nashua, NH; son Desmond L. Oakes of Newbury, NH; a daughter Dorie Oakes of Rumford, ME and 7 grandchildren – Jennifer, Erin, and Gregory Kent of Nashua, Alex Oakes of Wilton, ME, Travis Oakes of Dixfield, ME, Joshua Oakes of Springfield, MA and Charlotte Oakes of Newbury, NH; half sisters, Eleanor Moon and Betty Jean and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
