Donald P. Cande, 73, of Westmoreland, NH died on December 4, 2002 at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, NH after a sudden illness. He was born in Pittsfield, MA on November 19, 1929, son of Robert P. and Hazel (Runnells) Cande. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (Gilroy) Cande, who died in 1985. Dr. Cande retired from the superintendency of the Locust Valley Central School District on Long Island in 1988. He also served as Superintendent of Schools in Monroe, CT and Richmond-West Stockbridge, MA and was a teacher and a principal. He received his B.S. and M.Ed. from North Adams State College and his doctorate in educational administration from the University of Massachusetts. He served his country in Korea from 1951 1953. Dr. Cande was an avid sportsman who enjoyed field-trialing championship English Springer Spaniels. Survivors include two daughters, Donna and Dennis Phelan of Mont Vernon, NH and Barbara and Richard Eddinger of Middletown, CT; a son, Kathy and Kevin Cande of Mattituck, NY; a brother, Fred Cande of Virginia Beach, VA and nine grandchildren. All arrangements will be private and the family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Dr. Cande's memory to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, 585 Stewart Avenue, Suite 414 in Garden City, NY 11530.
