Donald G. Ferren
Litchfield â Donald G. Ferren, 81, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at his home with his loving family at his side.
Don was born in Errol, NH, the son of Margaret and Curtis Ferren. He graduated from Berlin High School and went on to graduate from the Thompson School of Agriculture (UNH).
He served in the US Army (European Theater) with an honorable discharge (Medical Corp) â 1952-54.
Don achieved a BS Degree in Agronomy (soils and plants) from UNH in 1959.
Don retired from Soil Conservation Service in 1986 after 35 years of service in New Hampshire, New York, Vermont and in Minnesota as State Conservationist.
Don returned to NH where he became active in the Association of Retired Soil Conservation Services Employees (ARSCSE). He received the President's Award for outstanding community service from ARSCSE. He served as National President of ARSCSE.
Don received the "Best Friend Award" in appreciation of outstanding service from the Federal Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NH â Nashua Chapter.
Don was predeceased by his first wife, Gloria Colby, a son and daughter, seven sisters and six brothers.
Don is survived by his wife of 22 years, Janet; his daughter, Lisa Kiewel and her husband Rick of St. Paul, MN; his daughter, Donna Guy and her husband Rick of Sparta, WI; his son, Eric Ferren and his wife Cheryl of Northfield, NH. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kathy and her husband Nate Zwonitzer; Kevin Kiewel and Hunter Guy. A brother, Dr. Calvin Ferren and his wife Barbara of Pasadena, CA and many, many nieces and nephews.
