Doris (Dodie) Balch
Dodie died on September 25, 2014, at Birch Hill Terrace in Manchester, NH
Dodie was born August 11, 1918, in Keene, NH, the daughter of Frank and Mabel Towle Feather.
She graduated from Manchester Central HS, then attended Hesser Business College, leaving when offered a job with NE Telephone Co. She was a licensed realtor and after raising her family, worked for a local dentist for 19 years, first as his assistant, then later became office manager.
She was a member of the Ruth Chapter of the order of the Eastern Star, and in 1944, was President of the Manchester Junior Women's Club. As a member of the South Main Street Congregational Church, she sang in the church choir and was very active in the Church Kupples Club.
She was an avid bridge player and loved both water and snow skiing. While vacationing in Mexico she parasailed. At age 80 she went up in a glider, and at 83, up in a balloon.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1996. Three years later she moved to Birch Hill Terrace in Manchester, where she lived happily for the rest of her life.
Family members include her daughter Meredith, and her husband Albert Burtt, of Greenfield, NH, and a son David Johnson, and his wife Tanida, residing in Atlanta, Georgia. Her oldest daughter Linda died in 2010. She leaves two step sons, Edward Balch and his wife Linda of Marietta, Georgia, and Richard Balch of N. Hampton NH. She leaves 5 grandchildren, Dough, Pam, Kimberely (Died at age 8), Tracy, and Heather. She also leaves 6 great grandchildren.
