Doris Forman

Doris V Forman, 86, died December 11, 2008, at Hanover Terrace Nursing Home, following a brief illness. She was born June 6, 1922, in Springfield, Vt to Milton and Gladys (Chapman) Baker. Doris grew up on the family farm in North Springfield with her sisters, Gertrude, Ruth, Helen and Frances and brother Robert. The stories she would tell of these times over the years would bring smiles to her face. She graduated in 1940 from Springfield High School and went on to nurses training in Rhode Island. Taking ill she returned to Vermont and worked as a caregiver for several families. In 1945 she married Harold Lawrence and lived in Ludlow. When her children were old enough she went to work to manage the school lunch program and later years she could be found on Tuesdays catering the luncheon for the local rotary club. She worked for Ralph Hogancamp at Steamtown USA and for his business feeding the skiers on Okemo Mountain. In 1967 Doris and family moved to North Springfield where she owned and operated the Jack and Jill restaurant. She later worked for the Meals on Wheels program in Springfield and then to the Springfield Hospital to work in their kitchen. Upon her retirement she married Mark Forman and moved to Winchester NH, Wilkesboro, NC and then St Augustine Florida. In December of 2006 Doris returned to Charlestown to stay with her niece Carol and be close to her family. She then went on to Hanover Terrace. Doris was a member of the Olivet Baptist Church in West Lebanon, NH. For those who knew her they will tell you what a loving Christian woman she was. Always helping in anyway she could and sharing her love of God. She had a joke ready to brighten anyone's day. She spoke to every one what a joyous day it would be when God reached out his hand and guided her home. She looked forward to joining her parents, her sister Ruth, brother Robert and sister Helen and four grandchildren who left this world before her. Surviving her are her sisters Gertrude and Frances. Her sons Arthur and Jeffrey and daughter Susan survive her as well as her grandsons Peter and Justin and granddaughter April, and her great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. As requested by Doris there will be no funeral services but a memorial service will take place at the Olivet Baptist church in West Lebanon. In lieu of flowers and donations please make them to the Olivet Baptist church, PO Box 5407, West Lebanon, NH 03784, where it will be used to do God's work as Doris wished.
