C. Doris Kinder, 95, recently of Keene Center-Genesis, 677 Court Street, died Saturday, January 10, 2004 with members of her family at her bedside. Doris was born July 30, 1908 in Mitchell, Indiana and was the eldest child of John and Lida (Miller) McGrew. She grew up attended school in Mitchell. She was employed by the Reliance Manfacturing Company where she supervised the construction of dresses and shirts. Her life took her from Mitchell to North Carolina, upper New York state, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Wherever she lived she gave of herself volunteering time as a leader and instructor in various organizations benefiting children and animals. She was a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, PTA president and American Red Cross volunteer. In 1959, her family moved to New Hampshire where Doris continued her volunteer work. She continued her career with Horton and Hubbard Manfacturing Company in Nashua where she oversaw the production of luggage. Upon retirement in 1974, she moved to East Sullivan, New Hampshire where she kept a large garden, crafted hand stitched quilts, enjoyed cooking and her family. In 1991, Doris moved to Greenville, New Hampshire to be close to her great granddaughter, Carly R. Brock. She is survived by her daughters, M. Kathleen Allen of East Sullivan and Doctor Gretna R. Niemi of New Ipswich, and grandchildren Pamela A. Brock of New Ipswich, John O. Niemi of Hamden, Massachusetts and Carrie Lee Allen of Garden City, Georgia. Doris loved her family, friends and dogs. She believed in the goodness of each person, hard work and sharing. She will be missed by the many lives she touched and the many who called her "Mom". A celebration and affirmation of her life will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the United Methodist Church, Chapel by the Lake, (Granite Lake) Old Route 9, Munsonville, NH. A reception and fellowship time will immediately follow the service. All are welcome to attend. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In appreciation of her love for animals, memorial gifts be made to the Monadnock Humaine Society Shelter, 101 West Swanzey Road, West Swanzey, NH 03469.
