Doris Joan (Skidgell) Mirucki, 75, died peacefully at home on June 30, 2020 in West Halifax, VT. Dorie was born on August 26, 1944, in Hartford, CT, the daughter of Thornton M. Skidgell and Mildred G. (Fish) Palmieri and stepdaughter of Mario B. Palmieri of South Glastonbury, CT. She was the beloved wife of Richard Mirucki, who she married in East Hartford, CT on January 9, 1983. By her side at the time of her passing were her loving husband and daughters and her faithful kitty.
Dorie was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Shelburne Falls, MA. She attended Hartford College for Women and had a degree in English from Eastern Connecticut State University. She loved languages, was fluent in French, enjoyed writing, and taught English as a second language. She loved to help others and fulfilled her longtime dream of becoming a missionary when she traveled to Haiti to teach and provide help in rural communities. She had great compassion for the elderly, working for Franklin County Home Care and caring for several family members and friends in their final years. Dorie was thoughtful, generous, kind, and greatly loved by those who knew her.
Dorie was predeceased by her sister, Cynthia Hansen of Tampa, FL, and her step-uncle, Aldo Palmieri of South Glastonbury, CT. She is survived by her husband, Richard Mirucki of West Halifax, VT, sister, Barbara Capman of Rutland, VT, daughters Sara Justus of San Diego, CA and Tricia Walter of Collinsville, CT, her step-daughter Kathleen Ferland of West Halifax, VT, who lovingly cared for her during her final years, step-daughters Tina McKenna of Vernon, CT, Stacy Willett of East Hartford, CT and Geraldine Mirucki of Manchester, CT, brother William Skidgell of Wethersfield, CT, many close friends and extended family members, and her beloved cat Molly, who was always by her side.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers of Bayada Hospice, who so wonderfully cared for Dorie, brightened her days, and gave her comfort during her illness.
