Dorothy M. Bernard

Dorothy Mary Bernard (Prescott), 98, passed away August 31, 2023 at St. Teresa Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Manchester, NH. She was born on November 19,1924, in Lincoln, NH the daughter of Paul and Adella Prescott.

Dorothy married Leo A. Bernard on September 16, 1948. They were married until his death in 1971, she was married to her second husband, Henry C. Smith for 25 years, until his death in 2005.

She attended local schools and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School for girls in 1943.

During World War II, she was employed by Textron, Inc.  She also worked for RC Hazelton Company for 24 years until her retirement in 1990.

Dorothy enjoyed visiting the White Mountains of NH where she was born. She also enjoyed going to the beach. She was devoted to her catholic faith and was a member of the Legion of Mary since 1942.

Dorothy was predeceased by her sister, Beverly Beauchemin of Goffstown, and a brother, Paul Prescott of Cebu, Philippines.

She is survived by her son, Robert Bernard and wife, Carol of Victor, NY; a daughter, Donna Giberson and husband, Kenneth of Manchester, NH; her sister, Audrey Gilhooly of Connecticut,  6 grandchildren Kelly, Robert, Erik, Mariel, Patrick, Timothy,  8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 172 Belmont Street, in Manchester NH. Graveside services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the St. Teresa Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 519 Bridge Street, Manchester, NH 03104.
