It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Dorothy Blanche (Poff) Chesnulevich who passed away on May 21, 2026 after a period of declining health.

Dorothy Blanche Poff was born in Nashua NH. She was the daughter of Sylvester and Cecile Poff. She married Harry Chesnulevich in 1953 and enjoyed 66 years of a loving marriage until Harry’s passing in 2019.

Together they had 4 boys. John, Alan, David and Eric. She always remarked the first letters of their name spelled out JADE.

Growing up in the French Hill section of the city, Dorothy was fluent in French and English. This served her well in later years when talking with her good friend Rachel, they would switch to speaking French when they didn’t want the kids to understand .

Dorothy left school in her elementary years. She continued her education at home and taught herself to be proficient in math and spelling. Words became her strong suit. Crosswords, word jumbles, word search and definitions would be her regular study material. She became ambidextrous, and her handwriting was equally good with both hands. She was a vivacious reader consuming entire novels in a single day.

Her strong word play allowed her to be a fierce competitor in word games. She would dominate in games such as Scrabble and Boggle to the point where nobody wanted to play her.

Dorothy loved all types of card games especially cribbage. Harry and Dot would participate in many cribbage leagues and the weekly card games at their residence complex.

Dorothy took up knitting and crocheting. Family members would always be wearing some winter knit cap of scarf she made. Over the years she made blankets, sweaters and caps for all the children born to family and friends. As soon as it was announced someone was expecting, she would start the project making sure it was completed on time to be presented as a welcoming gift to the new baby.

Most of her career would be a stay-at-home mom raising her boys. When time permitted, she took a job as the “ lunch lady” at Library Street School in Hudson. Retiring from the school she then worked at Bradlees in Simoneau Plaza.

Her family was everything. She supported them in many ways. Harry was a volunteer firefighter in Hudson and many times the call to duty would interrupt planned family events and she would never complain. Over the years, she would be in attendance to all sporting events involving her kids, grandkids and most recently her great-grand kids.

Her final days were spent at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack where she received incredible care. The family would like to send our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the Hospice House for the unbelievable compassionate level of care they showed Dorothy.

She is survived by her Brother Norman Poff, her sons John Chesnulevich and his wife Catherine. David Chesnulevich and is wife Cindy and Eric Chesnulevich. Alan Chesnulevich who predeceased her in 2023 was married to Susan Chesnulevich. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial graveside service at St Francis Xavier Cemetery, 75 Pine Hill Ave, Nashua will be held on June 24, 2026 at 1030am to honor her memory and reflect on the joy she brought to the world. All who knew her are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Home, Health and Hospice 7 Executive Park Dr. Merrimack NH 03054.

May her soul rest in peace. Forever remembered, forever missed.
