Dorothy W. Holden, 83, of Southern Pines, NC died December 20, 2007 at the Villas at Pine Knoll, Southern Pines, NC. She was born on March 25, 1924 in New York, NY the daughter of Harold R. and Elizabeth (Braun) Whaley. She moved to St. Johnsbury, VT as a small child and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1942 and the University of Vermont in 1947. Dorothy moved to Nashua, NH in 1980. She was active in many volunteer programs. She served two terms on the New Hampshire State Library Council, president of the Association of New Hampshire Library Friends for several years. Dorothy also volunteered with Home Health and Hospice Care in Nashua and Merrimack. She volunteered with the Rivier Institute for Senior Education at Rivier College in many capacities as a facilitator, student and officer. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth C. Holden of Southern Pines, NC; son, G. Donald Holden of Nashua; her sister, Elizabeth W. Chandler of Oceanside, CA and her step-sister, Natalie Kennison of Peterborough, NH. There are no calling hours or funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's memory can be made to the Tyngsboro Public Library.
