Dorothy Annette Parkinson

Dorothy Annette Parkinson, known by all as “Hot Dot,” passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on 12/14/2024. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Leon Parkinson, with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage, having wed on June 29, 1957.

Dot was born and raised in Boscawen, New Hampshire, alongside her three sisters, Eloise Bean, Marguerite O’Keefe, and Sandra Maynard (who predeceased her). They grew up on the Silver family farm, which was owned by their parents, Harlie and Eva Mae (Holbrook) Silver. A proud graduate of the Penacook High School Class of 1954, Dot's life was one of adventure, service, and love.

Dot’s life took her on many journeys. After high school, she traveled with her husband Leon during his service in the U.S. Army, including a memorable four years spent in Alaska. Upon returning to Boscawen, Dot and Leon began to build their family and their future together.

She was known in the community not only as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, but also as a dedicated worker. Dot spent 28 years as a bus driver for the Merrimack Valley School District, 20 years as a hairdresser with her own shop, and another 20 years working as a bank teller at Concord Savings Bank.

In her free time, Dot loved to enjoy the outdoors, often traveling to Pittsburg for snowmobiling trips with friends and spending time with her beloved husband Leon. A regular at bingo, she was known for her infectious sense of humor and her love of laughter. Those who knew her would often hear her tell her signature joke about the “Mirror, Mirror on the Door.”

Dot’s vibrant personality was reflected in her love for color, especially her collection of tie-dye shirts, and her ability to bring joy to others. She was also known for her Sunday rides with Leon, and after his passing, her children, Vicki and Jeff, made sure to continue this cherished tradition.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Vicki Young, and her husband, Walter Young; her son, Jeff Parkinson, and his wife, Jeanne Phillips; her granddaughter, Britteny Miner; and step-grandchildren, Heather Young, Joshua Young, Keely Mills, and Derek Mills. She also leaves behind countless friends and family members who will forever remember her warmth, humor, and boundless love.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the many friends and loved ones who visited Dot in her final days, and especially to the compassionate staff at the Granite VNA Hospice Home Care program for their support and care during this difficult time.

Dot will be deeply missed but never forgotten, her legacy of love, laughter, and service lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Granite VNA Hospice Home Care Program, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord, N.H. 03301.
