Dorothy May Watrous

Dorothy May (Pratt) Watrous, age 99, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born on June 6, 1922, in Dummerston, Vermont, the daughter of Harold Pratt and Pauline (Whitney) Pratt and spent the first part of her young life with her family on the Scott Farm where her father worked as a mechanic.

Dorothy attended Brattleboro Union High School and graduated in 1940. Dorothy was the wife of Robert H. Watrous, Sr. They met in Brattleboro, Vermont and were married on July 4, 1942 in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

Dorothy was the beloved matriarch of her family and will be sorely missed. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends who could often be found enjoying time at her home in Greenfield. She enjoyed camping with her husband and family, sewing, canning, gardening, crocheting, crafts of all kinds, and all forms of furniture restoration and home decorating. She always loved a good dessert!

Dorothy held several jobs over the years but her very favorite was working for the City of Greenfield in the School Lunch Program where she managed and served the children of Greenfield. Her love of children and helping others was a major part of her life. She was fondly known as “The Lunch Lady” and was very proud of this title.

Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Robert H. Watrous, Jr., and her husband Robert H. Watrous, Sr.

She is survived by her sister Patricia (Pratt) Richotte, her son Brian L. Watrous and his wife Cheryl, her daughter, Pauline (Watrous) Barton and her husband Stephen, her daughter-in-law Beth Gildin Watrous, her granddaughters Heather Loveland Watrous and her husband, Michael Fishbach, Lauren Watrous, Stephanie (Barton) Ellison and her husband Joshua, Naomi Watrous and her wife Sydney Longfellow, and Breanna (Barton) Walsh and her husband Todd. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Sather Robinson Waters, Delphi Fishbach Waters, Galen Fishbach Waters, Justice Ellison, Quentin Ellison, Evie May Ellison, and Caden Walsh, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A cemetery gathering will be held at Green River Cemetery in Greenfield, Massachusetts, privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pioneer Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 29 Conway Street, Suite 2, Greenfield, MA 01301.
