DOROTHY RUTH SHERPEY WOOD
NORTH CONWAY, NH -- With great sadness, we share that Dorothy Ruth Washburn Sherpey Wood passed away peacefully early Saturday morning September 9th, 2017 in North Conway NH. She was born in Saratoga, NY on September 29, 1927. During her early life, she lived in upstate NY where she grew up on a farm with her mother Sara and sister, Josephine. She graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY in 1947. She was the first graduating class to earn a BS in Nursing. The next third of her life was lived in Massachusetts where she raised her family and worked as a nurse and later a nursing supervisor at Winchester Hospital until she retired in 1990. She spent the last 30 years enjoying her retirement in Jackson, NH.
She was an active volunteer throughout her life, serving on school, church and community committees. She was an avid volunteer Civil Defense. She volunteered at Merriman House at Memorial Hospital in North Conway. She was always helping her friends and neighbors whenever she could. She was interested in her family history and did years of research enabling her to become a member and officer of the DAR. She was an avid bridge player but she really loved to be outdoors. She enjoyed gardening, skiing, hiking, camping, golfing and canoeing. She was always on the go. She loved to travel and did everything from Windjammer cruising to skiing in the Alps.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Armand Wood, her three children, Deborah (and Robert) Werrbach, Diane (and Kenneth) Willey, James (and Debra) Sherpey. Her grandchildren: Brett, Jody, Scott, Kathleen, Jamie and Charles, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES -- A Celebration of Life will be held at the Jackson Church, Jackson NH on Sunday October 1st at 2pm. All family and friends are invited.
