Douglas L. Butler

Douglas Linton Butler (February 10, 1942-August 5, 2016) of South Londonderry, VT, beloved husband of Andrea Butler, passed away at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

Doug is lovingly remembered by his wife Andrea, his three children, Darren Linkin (wife, Anna Headly), Heather Cook (husband, Chris), Adam Linkin (partner, Jodi Burton), and three grandsons Lukas and Jude Cook and Ivo Linkin. Also survived by his aunt, Dolores Coombs, his brother Steven (wife, Maureen) Butler, cousins Cyril Coombs, and Peg Padnos, siblings in-law Michael Feinberg & Mary Norton and David & Laurie Feinberg. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Eleanor & Harry Butler, brother, Michael Butler, and mother-in-law Bertha Feinberg.

Doug was born in New York City and raised in Rochester, NY. He was a graduate of University of Rochester, received his MBA from Seton Hall University and went on to have a successful and distinguished career as a chemist. After being employed by large chemical companies he created Matrixchem in 1992, a manufacturer of specialized fine chemicals.

Doug lived a remarkable life of wide-ranging pursuits and accomplishments. He loved spending time with family and friends cooking, laughing, dreaming and sharing the secrets of happiness. He was an avid outdoorsman, scuba diver, ski instructor, founder of the "O"racle blog, accomplished pianist, bridge player, ballroom dancer, avid collector of many varied items and especially loved debating political matters. He adored his beautiful Vermont home and enjoyed hosting many gatherings with his family and many friends. He confronted his illness with the same grace and bravery he faced all of the other challenges in his life, with humility and a sense of reality, that did not prevent him from enjoying the precious time left to him.

There will be a celebration of Doug's life at his Vermont home on September 17th at 1:00 PM. Donations in Doug's memory may be made to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (http://mskcc.convio.net/goto/DouglasButler) where Doug received caring treatment throughout the course of his illness.
