Douglas E Doolittle, age 94, died peacefully on December 3, 2023 at Wentworth Senior Living in Portsmouth, NH.
Many folks know our dad as ”Doug The Bug Man” for his passion restoring many VW beetles. Entering many VW shows in the state of New Hampshire.
He loved tending to his many vegetable gardens, flower gardens and fruit trees including apple and pear. He enjoyed jewelry making and being a Boy Scout leader, skiing at Sunday River and white water rafting trips to Niagara Falls, Ottawa and Montreal.
Some people don’t know he wore the USAF uniform once upon time. Proudly served in the USAF for 28 years. 1947 - 1975. Serving in Korea and Vietnam war eras. Taking him around the world. Receiving the metals: AFGCM, NDSM and AFLSA.
Today SMSGT Douglas E Doolittle, Retired, boarded his final military transport into the Wild Blue Yonder.
Doug is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Louisa, and brothers, Freddie Doolittle and Walter Doolittle.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Plesz of CT, sons, Jim Doolittle of Kittery, Maine, and Ken Doolittle and Sharon of Portsmouth, NH, daughter, Heather Doolittle and Gary Turgeon of Lebanon, Maine. Grandchildren and great grandchildren.
SERVICES: Military burial service to be held at NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy in Boscawen, NH on Jan. 5th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to VFW or Disabled Veterans.
