Edward “Eddie” John Blake passed away Thursday July 13, 2023, at Bel-Air Nursing home in Goffstown, NH surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 29, 1945, in the Bronx, NY, the son of George Blake and Irene (Thomas) Blake.
Following his graduation from Bedford Park Academy in Bronx, NY, he spent some time in the Navy. He married his childhood sweetheart in 1966 and started his family. He moved his young family to Bedford, NH where they raised their 2 daughters. He was very involved with his family and attended all his daughters’ sporting events. He coached both softball teams, where he even brought a team to the Softball World Series! He carried his love of the sea from the Navy and owned many boats, becoming an accomplished fisherman. This included catching many tunas, one which weighed in at 870 lbs. He had many boats over the years, but his prized possession was, “Joanie’s Diamond,” on which the tunas and many more fish were caught. It was also the boat him and Joanne spent a lot of their time on at the Hampton River Marina.
He was an employee of Mercedes/Freightliner for 32 years before retiring in 2003. He enjoyed his retirement for 20 years. He spent a lot of time traveling and lived most of his retirement in the Savanna Club of Port St Lucie, Florida. He was an avid golfer all of his golden years. Other hobbies included deer hunting, bowling and Trivia.
He made many friends over the years, from playing in the streets of the Bronx, to retiring in Florida, and many stops in between. He kept a lot of those friends until the end. He was well known and liked by many. Those who knew him loved him and remember his easy smile, quick wit, many stories, and unfailing devotion. His family and friends from NY to NH to Fl meant the world to him. He came back to NH during his last month to spend his final days surrounded by loved ones and dear friends; visits that gave him peace of mind.
He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Joanne Blake.
Eddie is survived by his daughters, Kelli Wright and husband Dana Wright, and Casey Swanson and partner Eddie Schibbelhute; brother, George Blake and wife Mickey Blake; cherished grandchildren, Corey, Alyssa, Alex, Patrick, and great grandchild Lennox; and his special extended family, Gerry and Lisa Filteau and their children, Nolan and Justin, as well as in-laws, Lillian Minogue, Danny Daly, and Patricia Daly. He also leaves behind his partner of 6 years, Deb Augst and her daughters, Jaime and Andrea.
