Edward Malott

Edward Orth Malott, 83, died Saturday June 29, 2002 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH, from heart disease. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 7, 1918, the only child of Edward Orth and Ada (Decker) Malott. Edward traveled annually, from childhood until 1978, to his family's cottage in Leland, Michigan and it is there that he felt he had his roots. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois in 1940, earning an MBA in 1941. His career included positions in sales promotion and as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Board with Vick Chemical company; faculty member and Assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia; Management Consultant at Cresap, McCormick and Paget and James O. Rice Associates; and Vice President and Director of the School of Management for the American Management Association. He retired in 1980, moving with his wife from Pleasantville, New York to Gilsum, New Hampshire in 1985. Edward's quick wit and unassuming charm will be missed by his many friends and colleagues, both local and in the larger network he maintained actively through correspondence. His photography, both as an artistic pursuit and for informal archiving, leaves many memories of his life. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judith Calver Malott of Gilsum, New Hampshire and two daughters, Carolin Malott of Boca Raton, Florida, and Dorcas Malott of Portland, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, a cause that the family has actively supported (P.O. Box 7992, Baltimore, MD, 21279-0972).
