Edward J. Mitchell

Edward J. Mitchell, 89, of Manchester, NH passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on July 20^th, 2022. Born in Manchester, NH on February 20^th, 1933 to the late Arthur & Lydia (Demers) Mitchell, Edward would go on to marry his best friend and love of his life, Dorothy, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Manchester, Edward was a lifelong resident of the Queen City. He loved New England and all that it had to offer and quickly decided it was where he wanted to be. In his younger years, Edward enrolled in the Army and would later work as a truck driver for the Manchester Highway Department. When he was 17, Edward met Dorothy Peterson and decided to marry her at age 19, and would go on to spend the next 64 years happily together. Close family and friends will remember them as inseparable friends who loved each other deeply until the very end. Together they shared in the raising of their daughter Jodie, who was the center of their world.

Those who knew Edward knew his passion for all things Jazz. All one had to do was visit his “Jazz room” full of Frank Sinatra memorabilia to know. Music was always important to Edward, and he shared his passion with his family, especially his nephew Craig who took on the trumpet as a result. He was also known for his ever-present sense of humor and his skill for making light of any situation, serious or not. Above all else, Edward loved his family immensely, and will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Edward was predeceased by his parents Arthur & Lydia Mithcell; wife Dorothy (Peterson) Mitchell; brother Arthur Mitchell Jr.; and sisters Janet Angers and Irene Gelinas. He is survived by his daughter Jodie Ann Mitchell of Manchester, NH; granddaughters Jennifer Bellau (Brian) of Bradenton, FL & Kristen Dennis (Brian) of Sun City FL; great-grandchildren Skyler & Claire Bellau; much loved nephews Craig Moquin of Hooksett, NH & Scott Moquin of Manchester, NH; sister Joyce Moquin of Manchester, NH; as well as many extended family members and friends.

A private celebration of Edward’s life will be held in the near future for immediate family.
