Edwina K. Brady

Life on this earth came to an end for Edwina K. Brady, age 84, on May 29, 2025, in Lebanon, NH. She was born on January 2, 1941, in Artesia, New Mexico to Edwin and Eleanor McCaw (Rogers).

Edwina graduated from Artesia High School in 1958. She married Robert (Bob) Brady in June of 1959, and had two children, Matt Brady, and Vicki Brady (Victoria McCandless). They also had two children that died in infancy. Edwina and Bob divorced in 1972.

Edwina worked at First National Bank, starting in 1972 in Artesia, NM, where she began as a secretary and then, after returning to school at Eastern New Mexico University where she earned an Associate’s of Science degree, she become a computer programmer. She became manager of the data processing and operations department at First National Bank from 1980 to 1983, was Training Director/Banking Officer from 1983 to 1987, Data Processing Administrative Officer from 1986 to 1987, and Bank Auditor from 1987 to 1988.

Edwina was a member of the American Businesswomen’s Association, serving as chapter president in 1982, and as chair of the education committee from 1984 to 1985. She was a member of the American Institute of Banking, serving as chapter director in 1976 and chapter president from 1984-85.

Edwina also was an artist – a poet, a painter (oil and pastels) and a photographer later in life. While she was in Artesia, NM, she was a founding member of the Artesia Arts Council, serving as both president and treasurer. She was a founding member of the Artesia Art in the Park festival at which she displayed her artwork for many years.

In 1988, she decided to move to New England to start a new chapter in her life. Her daughter moved shortly afterward to be close to her.

She worked for several employers in the Boston area and on the South Shore. From 1988 to 1990, she was a computer programmer and analyst at Southstate Bank for Savings in Brockton, Massachusetts. From 1990 to 1994, she was a systems analyst for Bay State Milling Company in Quincy. In 1989, she started her own company, called dataICON, doing contract work in desktop publishing, various computer services, tutoring, and training. In 1996, she joined Deutsche Bank in Boston, which was later bought by State Street Bank, where she served as an Assistant Vice President. She retired from State Street in 2009.

She lived in multiple locations in Massachusetts, including Bridgewater, Easton, and Dracut, before moving to New London, New Hampshire in 2010, to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, before finally settled in Grantham, NH. She loved to garden; planted beautiful flowers in her front gardens, and always enjoyed her house in the woods.

Edwina listened to all kinds of music and was a big fan of Neil Diamond; having attended many of his concerts with her daughter over the years. She also loved 80’s hard rock bands, like Def Leppard, and White Snake.

Her favorite holiday was Christmas. A tradition that she and her daughter enjoyed was attending The Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s annual Christmas concerts. Earlier in life, Edwina and her mother, Eleanor, made homemade Christmas candy every year, and packaged various types of candy in decorative boxes to give to family and friends. Edwina and her daughter continued this tradition for many years.

Edwina was also an avid reader, owning hundreds of books from self-help, and non-fiction, to science fiction and murder mysteries. Her TV watching was equally eclectic – she enjoyed watching everything from Hallmark Channel holiday movies to NCIS and other murder mysteries. One of her favorite shows was “The Mandalorian.” She fell in love with Baby Yoda, one of the main characters, which then became a common theme that her family would use to give to her in gifts like Baby Yoda T-shirts and stuffed toys. Edwina also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles – her son Matt, always gave her a new puzzle at Christmas.

Edwina was fiercely independent, willing to rise up and meet the challenges that life brought her – divorcing at a time when divorce was rare, taking care of two children on her own, caring for her elderly mother for many years, and working in a male-dominated field while rising the ranks to various leadership positions.

While Edwina was somewhat shy and reserved, she was well liked and respected by friends, and beloved by her family, who will miss her dearly, remembering her sweet disposition, her easy-going manner, and her dry sense of humor.

Edwina is survived by her brother, Larry McCaw of Scottsdale, Arizona; son Matt and his wife Kelly of Sunapee, New Hampshire; daughter Victoria and her husband Tom, of Grantham, New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Dustin (and his partner Sydney Skiba) of Brookline, Massachusetts, James (married to Haley Brady) of Artesia, New Mexico, and Taren, Sara, and Sean of New Hampshire; and three great granddaughters Paisley, Whitley, and Adaleigh.

No formal services will be held at this time. Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Boscawen. To view Edwina's Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com.
