Elizabeth "Betsy" Cavanaugh

Elizabeth (Betsy) Cavanaugh, 67, of Litchfield, NH, passed away at home on July 13, 2023. Born in Brighton, MA on December 19, 1955, she was the middle of three daughters of the late Albert and Gertrude Chicoine. She shared 25 years of loving marriage to Steven Cavanaugh of Litchfield. Together they dedicated themselves to their children, family, pets, gardens, and enjoyed quiet nights at home with each other. 

Elizabeth’s early years were spent in Waterbury, CT, and her family later relocated to Manchester, New Hampshire, where she graduated from Central High School in 1973. She went on to study nursing at the University of New Hampshire and always spoke fondly of her time venturing cross country to work as a nurse in California, Arizona, and later at the VA in Manchester. Betsy always had an innate talent for crafts and sewing. Recognizing  those talents, she established and ran a successful children’s clothing and tailoring business, traveling to craft shows all over New England. She spent countless hours embroidering and perfecting each new dress or pant set and she was quite proud of her designs. Later, she ventured into education, earning a Master’s Degree and teaching medical assisting students at Hesser College, where she loved to share her expertise and empathetic nature with her students and colleagues. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Betsy will be remembered as funny and silly and extraordinarily caring towards all those that she encountered. 

A beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister and aunt, Betsy cherished moments with her family dearly. She had a special bond with her son, Paul, always finding joy in making one another laugh and taking wonderful care of each other. The beach held a special place in her heart, as the crashing waves and sandy shores provided solace and tranquility. She enjoyed her visits to Arizona and Maine, where she reunited with her beloved sisters, creating lasting memories and strengthening their unbreakable bond. 

Elizabeth is survived by her loving family, including her husband, Steven Cavanaugh of Litchfield, NH; her son, Paul Gregoire of Dover, NH; her sisters, Marie Miller and her husband Paul of Maine and Barbara Chicoine and husband Chuck Crawford of Arizona; Stepchildren Tristen Cavanaugh and Colleen Doyle, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. 

Per Elizabeth’s wishes, no services will be held.
