With hearts full of love and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Curdie, a woman whose warmth and spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, on December 25, 2024. Betty was born on June 17, 1943, in Manchester, NH, the only child of Vincent and Ann Twaryon. Her roots ran deep in Manchester, where she spent her childhood and many happy years with her grandmother, Anna Gillis and aunt, Elizabeth Tolman.
Betty’s early life was filled with the joy of music and the thrill of the stage. She graduated from Nazareth Academy in Nazareth, Kentucky, a time she held dear, recalling sweet memories of daisy chains and the triumph of winning a best actor award. Her passion for the arts extended beyond acting; she played both violin and piano, and furthered her musical studies at UNH for a time.
Life took a beautiful turn when Betty met her beloved husband, Robert H. Curdie, while working in the insurance field at Fireman's Fund. Their love story began in 1967, and shortly after, they welcomed their devoted daughters, Stacey and Stephanie, into the world. Betty dedicated herself to raising her girls in their younger years, before embarking on a new adventure with Bob in 1982, moving to Bristol to own and operate the Curdie Insurance Agency.
Betty and Bob were the heart of their business and the pulse of their community. Many will fondly remember stopping in to pay a bill and staying a while, charmed by Betty’s ready smile and infectious laughter. Her genuine connection with people earned her the distinct honor of being the first female President of the local Lions’ Club.
Her greatest joy, however, came from her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, Hannah and Sam. She treasured the opportunity to be a part of their lives and was delighted to return to the family homestead in Manchester, where she could be close to them. You could often find Betty snuggled in her favorite chair with her devoted four-legged companion, Tillie, always ready for a forbidden treat. Tillie was more than a pet; she was a cherished sidekick, her constant presence, a comfort and joy.
Betty was reunited with her beloved husband, Robert; her father, Vincent; and her mother, Ann. The legacy of love and laughter she leaves behind is “to be continued” by her daughters, Stacey, and Stephanie and her spouse, Robert; her adored grandchildren, Samuel and Hannah; her niece, Sue and her wife, Velna, family friend Christine Piper and son, Aidan; and countless friends and neighbors who were blessed to know her. They will carry her spirit with them until they meet again.
A memorial service and celebration of Betty’s life will be held in June in Manchester, NH, a time to gather, share stories, and honor a life so beautifully lived.
