Elizabeth Anne Downing

Elizabeth Anne Downing, 83, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 in Concord, NH at VNA Hospice House after a brief illness surrounded by loving family. Born on June 29, 1940, in Newton, Mass, Elizabeth was number 2 in the lineup of the six children born to Robert S Lunt Jr and Francesca Barker Lunt.

Elizabeth started her education in a one room schoolhouse in Weare, NH, continued on to UNH Durham graduating in 1962, then formally ending with a Masters in Social Work from UConn in 1988.

She began her career in the medical field by working for Metropolitan State Hospital and Tuffs Medical Center in Boston, before returning home to NH where she was employed by Hanover Hill Health Care and The Elliot Hospital , working at both for 18 years before retiring in 2007. A true humanitarian, she found immense enjoyment in helping families navigate life circumstances.

During retirement she was able to do some of the things she loved, spending time on the coast, hiking in NH, gardening and continuing a lifelong passion for learning and reading. Inevitably in conversation she'd say "I have a book about that" and she did.

Another passion was spending time with her family, particularly her Granddaughters and Great Granddaughter whose antics kept her laughing most days.

Elizabeth was loved and cherished and will be missed terribly.

She is survived by brothers, Robert Lunt and Wife Ruth of PA, William Lunt and wife Mary of NY, and Alvin Lunt of NH. Also survived by two Daughters, Cheryl and Nancy, Granddaughters, Elizabeth and Rebecca, and One Great Granddaughter, Bailey. She was also blessed to have numerous nieces and nephews .

She was proceeded in death by siblings Evelyn Lavallee and David Lunt.

The family thanks VNA Hospice House for the warmth, dignity and care provided to her and requests any donations be sent there.

SERVICES: A memorial is planned for Friday, April 5th at 1pm at the Cremation Society of NH, 172 King St , Boscawen, NH. Interment will be at a later date.
