Elsie Marie Roberts

Elsie M. Roberts, 72, longtime resident of Newport, died Sunday (March 23, 2003) at home after a long illness. She was surrounded by family. Mrs Roberts was born May 24, 1930, in Grantham, a daughter of Ernest and Florence (Moulton) Pillsbury. She grew up in Grantham and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1948. In 1949, she married Russell E. Roberts and they moved to Newport soon after. She worked for many years at Sugar River Savings Bank in Newport, until her retirement in 1990. She was known as a hard worker, always doing for others, and never asking for help because she didn't want to put anyone out. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and pillows for friends and relatives, and was most happy just being with her family. Members of her surviving family include her husband of 54 years, Russell E. Roberts, of Newport; a son, Edward W. Roberts, of Grantham; two daughters, Dale A. Kelley of Sunapee, and Bobbi Jean Roberts, of Newport; three grandchildren, Lisa M. Kelley, Charlottesville, VA, Richard D. Kelley, Jr., Sunapee, and Christopher Roberts, Grantham; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Morgan Roberts of Grantham; two sisters, Iva Provencal, Casa Grande, AZ, and Becky Flynn, Cornish; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Roberts was predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie L. Sanborn in Sept. 2000, and by two brothers, Harlan S. Pillsbury and Wayne F. Pillsbury. There will be no calling hours. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Lake Sunapee Visiting Nurses' Assoc. Hospice, PO Box 2209, New |London, NH 03257.
