Elwin H. Greer

A truly unique and special free spirit, Elwin Henry Greer aka “Misty”, age 76, of Whitefield, NH, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024, at home with his wife of 27 years by his side, following a valiant battle with Cancer.  He was the first-born son of Henry and Virginia Greer (both of whom predeceased him), of East Burke Vermont.  He joined the Marine Corps following graduation from high school, where he served in Vietnam in the initial Special Forces unit.

Elwin was a multi-talented individual.  It seemed there was nothing he couldn’t do.  Upon his return home, he employed the skills he learned as a teenager driving trucks.  He was one of the first “Ice Road Truckers”, driving double trailers delivering construction materials to James Bay Canada.  His heavy equipment skills were put to good use in building most of the ski areas in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine, as well as many of our freeways.   Elwin owned his own log trucking business and worked for many of the local logging companies.

Elwin’s carpentry abilities led to employment moving and setting mobile homes.  When he built something, it was meant to last forever.  He had an artistic side which he utilized in crafting, and he made some beautiful and exceptional articles. Elwin was a caring and giving individual who would help others at the drop of a hat.  He had an unbridled sense of humor, and a strong will to go on.  Elwin was a complicated, genuine individual who left no question where he stood on any subject.  He could be counted on to be there for ones who needed him. He was the first to step in if he witnessed someone being bullied.  He volunteered for the fire departments in both Littleton and Whitefield. He was also a foster father to many children.

Elwin’s family includes three brothers Henry “Pete” and Luann, Brian and Sandra, and Wayne, still residing in East Burke, Vermont where he was raised, a number of nieces and nephews, his loving spouse Lorna of Whitefield, son Jerry and wife Sarah of Whitefield, and two grandchildren Adrianna and Bentley.  His request was that there be no services, and that each person he had contact with in his life remember him in their own way.  The world lost a precious gem when he passed, and he will be sorely missed.
