Emanuel Carl Ebner, Jr., 59, of Hudson, NH died January 1, 2005 in a Lowell hospital. Carl was born in August of 1945 to his late parents, Emanuel and Judith Ebner. He was a Coast Guard veteran who served during the Vietnam era and shortly thereafter was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He graduated from Lowell Tech as a Mechanical Design Engineer. From his wheelchair and with untold determination, Carl owned and operated Ebner Consulting, a design engineering company, for 21 years. He was a gifted and brilliant man with amazing creative and artistic talent, incredible patience and an outstanding ability to describe anything to anyone. Carl was a kind and gentle teacher. His extraordinary courage inspired many. Carl and Donna (Dupuis) Ebner married in 1980 and had one son, Brian D. Ebner. Although they chose to live separately many years later, they were friends and Carl remained committed to his family. He and his son Brian shared the love of basketball. With a basketball court and outdoor lighting at the house, his brother Richard (and friends) often joined them for evening games. Carl played point guard from his wheelchair, had a mean hook shot and delighted in setting up Brian for a slam dunk. Carl and companion, Alison, spent much time together in more recent years and their love was reciprocal. They shared memories of oceanic cruises and always looked forward to weekends. Carl will be deeply missed by wife, Donna Ebner, son, Brian Ebner, dear friend Alison Costello, brothers Richard Ebner and Peter Ebner, their wives Eleanor and Marsha respectively, and two nieces. Please join the family on Sat. Jan. 29th at 10:00 a.m. for a Memorial Service, at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 2 Westford St., Chelmsford, MA 01824 FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, SEE CHURCH WEBSITE, www.uuchelmsford.org 978-256-5133 or 978-244-2583
