Emery Edward Bassett, Jr.

Emery Edward Bassett Jr., passed away at his home in Warner, New Hampshire, December 29th, 2021. He was born in Concord, New Hampshire, February 14th, 1939, to Emery E. Bassett Sr., and Genia (Gut). Emery married his loving wife Nancy (Davis) December 24th, 1961.

Emery, a devoted husband and father, was known for his patience, respect, and strong work ethic. Emery, known as “Ace” to his family and friends, earned his nickname early on due to his exceptional target shooting skills. He enjoyed target shooting throughout his life and was well respected for his skill and willingness to help and teach others in the competitive shooting community.

Ace graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Biology degree, served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963, and later worked at Electric Boat and IBM. He was a long-time resident of Vermont, living in Westford and Essex before moving to Warner, New Hampshire. Ace was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, hiking, running, shooting, gardening, and snow sledding. He won many target shooting contests and is a Boston Marathon finisher. Ace enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, and other games with anyone brave enough to take him on. He was an accomplished guitar and banjo player, serenading family gatherings with folk classics.

Emery is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy; stepmother Theda (Stone) Bassett of Boscawen, New Hampshire; son Emery “Ed” Bassett III, and his wife Karen (Loomis), of Colorado; son Kevin Bassett, and his partner Natalie West, of Vermont; daughter Melodie (Bassett) Stanley, and her husband John, of Colorado; son Daryl Bassett, and his wife Sonia (Desjardins), of Vermont; grandchildren Amanda, Scott, Alecia, Cody, Gwendolyn, and Cynthia; and great grandchildren Kaelynn, Everett, Ruby, Ian, and Isabel. He is also survived by brothers Douglas Bassett, Neil Champagne, Roy Champagne and sister Dale (Champagne) Mayo.

SERVICES: As per Emery’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours. He will be buried in the family plot at Pine Grove Cemetery, Boscawen, New Hampshire. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be determined.
