Emma Lou Nipps

Emma Lou Nipps - dedicated wife, devoted mother of two, loving grandma, friend to many, and world traveler - departed this life on December 2, 2024, at the age of 87 in New Hampshire.

Born on October 22, 1937, Emma was the first child of Walter and Opal Hoover of Arnold, Kansas. While the family lived and farmed in Kansas, a sister, Walta Lee, was born in July 1941. In 1945, the family moved to Santa Rosa, California, where Walter learned to pilot small airplanes to help in running his own harvesting business in Kansas. Sadly, a plane crash in Kansas in June 1946 took Walter’s life.

Emma stayed in California with her mom and sister until her mom married Kenneth Halliburton in March 1950. Kenneth was in the U.S. Army and the family soon moved to Wurtzburg, Germany, where Emma attended high school.

After high school, Emma had a few adventures in the working world, but found her dream job as an airline stewardess for TWA upon earning her wings in May 1958. She loved flying on those Connies! It was during this time that Emma met the love of her life, Donald Nipps, and the two knew they were meant for each other. They married in February 1961, after only knowing one another for a few months.

Don was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, so the couple spent many years traveling, living in England, Arizona, Japan, Okinawa, and Massachusetts. During this time, Emma and Don became the parents of Laura and Kenneth. Being a mom was Emma’s greatest joy!

Later in life, Emma attended Boston’s School of the Museum of Fine Arts, received her real estate license, prepared taxes for clients, and spent many hours painting, quilting, cooking and gardening. She loved music, especially Country and Western. She was dedicated to her family and we all felt that in the unwavering love and support she provided.

She is survived by her husband, Don; daughter Laura (husband Greg); son Kenneth (wife Beth); her granddaughters Mollie (her fiancé Adam) and Alexa; and her special puppy Maggie. She is also survived by her sister’s five children; Tom, Steve, Rob, Terry, and Sally.

At the request of Emma, there will be no formal services.
