Ernest Lee Bell “Ernie” “Buster”, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his Bedford, NH home on October 27, 2021.
Ernie was born on February 26, 1948, in Kinston, NC. He grew up in Snow Hill, NC and graduated from Greene Central High School.
At the age of nineteen, Ernie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Master Sargent. Early in his career, he was deployed to Vietnam to assist with the conflict there. After he returned from Vietnam and while stationed in Weymouth, MA, he met and married Mary MacPherson. They were married thirty-seven years.
After retiring from the Marine Corps with twenty years of service, he worked for Ainslie Corporation, then Airxchange as a Quality Control Manager. He retired from Airxchange in 2009.
During retirement, Ernie loved babysitting his grandson, Jackson. Jackson kept him young and active. He enjoyed going to restaurants where he frequently chose another table to pay for. He would tell the staff not to say who paid the bill. At Christmas time he would give extra big tips to the servers. He also enjoyed helping family and friends without expecting anything in return.
Ernie will be lovingly remembered by his children, Linda Bourgoin of Bedford, NH, and Sean (Nancy) Bell of Kingston, MA, along with his grandchildren Emrys (Jolonda) Lowe, Juniper Lowe, Tyler Bourgoin, Shane Bourgoin, Brandon Bourgoin and Jackson Bell, and his great-grandson Elijah Lowe. He is survived by his brother, William (Brenda) Bell of Snow Hill, NC, and his sister Brenda (Randolph) Combs also of Snow Hill, NC. Ernie will be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will all miss him dearly.
Ernie was predeceased by his wife, Mary MacPherson of Weymouth, MA, his parents, Charles Bell and Bertha Harrell of Snow Hill, NC, his brother, Charles Bell also of Snow Hill, NC, and his son-in-law, Scott Bourgoin of Bedford, NH.
A service honoring the life of Ernie will be held on November 19, 2021, at 10:30 am, at Immaculate Conception Parish, 720 Broad Street, Weymouth, MA. Interment will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West Street, Braintree, MA.
