Ethel M. Pace

Laconia, NH - Ethel Marion Pace (Davie), 91, blessed with a long, healthy life; youthful well into her eighties, passed away on August 6th, 2022.  She was born on March 4,1931 in Woburn MA, to immigrant parents, Henry and Bertha Davidson from Sweden and Norway, who met at night school while learning to speak English.  “Davie” was 14 when she lost her mother to cancer.  She went on to graduate with honors from Woburn High in 1948.  She earned her nursing degree from Salem Hospital School of Nursing as president of her class in 1951.

That same year she met and married Leonard William Pace from Topsfield, MA who completed his Air Force training at the end of WWll, going on to become a commercial airline pilot.  They began married life in Jackson Heights NYC, followed by Ipswich MA and Monroe and Easton CT.  Their final move was to Moultonboro NH in 1969 to live year round in the town where they had enjoyed Winnipesaukee lakefront summers for 10 years prior.  Most recently, Davie enjoyed many good years at Taylor Community in Laconia before moving to Saint Francis Rehab and Nursing Care in Laconia during February of this year.

Davie prided herself on making a home for her family.  She was a great cook who enjoyed refinishing furniture, knitting and quilting.  She also prided herself on being handy; sewing, gardening and preserving food.  She and “Len” maintained a large vegetable garden, as well as a raspberry and apple orchard for many years   She was very involved in her community, always contributing to fundraising activities through Women’s Club and volunteering at the Moultonboro Library.  Her greatest happiness was found in a good antique auction, rowdy bridge games, reading a good book in the sun, beach time either in Wells ME or Marco Island FLA, entertaining friends and having her family together, especially for a traditional smorgasbord at Christmas time.

Davie is predeceased by her husband Leonard, her sister Helen Smith, half-sister Linda Klevjer and granddaughter Robin Huckins.  She is survived by her daughter Sandra and husband Paul of Cornish, ME; daughter Cynthia and husband David of Hopkinton, NH; and daughter Jeniferlee and husband Harry of Topsham, ME.  She is also survived by six grandchildren; Emily, Nate, Andrew, Katherine, Rachel and John; and eight great grandchildren; Will, Sam, Charlie, Phoebe, Ella, Owen, Nolan and Doug, as well as three loved cousins, four nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: At her request, there will be a private burial at Holland Hill Cemetery in Moultonboro, NH.
