It is with great sadness that the family of Eugene Roger "Gene" Lemay of Manchester, NH, announce his passing at the age of 89. Gene passed unexpectedly on July 19, 2024, at CMC Hospital, Manchester, NH.
He was known for his immense humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his family and anyone he interacted with. Some family members fondly remember him as "Skinny Pepere" because he was the smallest of his three brothers.
Gene was born on October 27, 1934, in Manchester, NH, son of the late Roch and Cecile (Barnabe) Lemay. Gene was husband to Pauline R. (Coulombe) Lemay, with whom he shared almost 70 years of marriage (69 yrs. and 10 months to be exact!). In his early years Gene attended local schools and later married Pauline (Coulombe) on September 6, 1954. They brought up a son and daughter in their home in Manchester where Gene was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua, Manchester where he was active as a Lector, a Boy Scout Cub Leader and a Cub Master for Troop 118. Most recently, he attended The Church of the Transfiguration, in Manchester.
Gene was a lifelong Teamster and the Treasurer for a time. Throughout Gene's long career, he forged many friendships that lasted a life time. He worked for Coke a Cola, Sunbeam Bread (Cote's Bakery), Gosselin's Superette and lastly Wonderbread where he retired from. In retirement he enjoyed summers at their condo at Hampton Beach, NH, and winters at their condo in Seminole, Florida with his wife, Pauline, family, and friends. Over the years Gene and Pauline travelled to many destinations; Hawaii and many cruises. A man of few hobbies, he found beauty in life's simple moments and encouraged others to do the same. In his early years Gene enjoyed riding his motorcycle. His son remembers vividly the day they bought their motorcycles together. Other hobbies he looked forward to were his daily naps and eating anything chocolate! Gene worked tirelessly in the summer months tending to their in-ground pool that would bring years of pleasure with many pool parties. His absence leaves a void in our lives.
Gene Lemay's loving family includes his wife, Pauline (Coulombe) Lemay; one son, Richard (Dick) and Dolores "Dolly" Lemay of Manchester, NH; his daughter, Linda (Lemay) Wojceshonek (deceased 2022) and son-in-law Bernard "Benny" Wojceshonek. His 4 grandchildren include, Jessica (Lemay) Jordan, Cara (Wojceshonek) and husband Jace Porter; Bradley and wife Raquel Wojceshonek and Gene's great-grandson, Bryson Wojceshonek; a brother Richard and wife Joyce Lemay; a brother-in-law Richard and wife Helene Coulombe; sisters-in-law Theresa Parkinson and Lucille Lemay; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Roch and Cecile (Barnabe-Lemay) Waterhouse; a granddaughter, Jenny Ann Lemay; and a brother, Robert Lemay, Sr.
To commemorate his remarkable long and fulfilling life, we welcome all who knew Gene to celebrate his life with us at a mass of Christian Burial, which will be held at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Transfiguration, 107 Alsace Street, Manchester, NH 03102 on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. The family has requested that the graveside burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Manchester, NH, be for immediate family only. We thank you.
