Evelyn Virginia (Keller) Whitehead, 96, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Elliot Hospital in Manchester surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on April 4, 1928 in Manchester, New Hampshire, the daughter of the late Armand Keller and Emma (Stiller) Keller. She was the wife of the late John “Jack” Whitehead. They were married on April 25, 1953 in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Evelyn was born and raised in Manchester, where she completed all of her early childhood education, and earned her high school diploma at West High School. Evelyn began her employment in the Manchester Mills, where she worked with stitching and fabric, and most notably assembled shoes for those who served in World War II. She later returned back to her roots in the school system working in the cafeteria and as a teacher’s aid.
Evelyn completed her degree in Art studies in Massachusetts, where her love and gifted talent of art began. She specifically loved hand painting and finishing her own ceramics. She showcased her talent for artistry through many floral paintings, portraits, Christmas ornaments, and the nature around her. She spent many of her years volunteering at the William B. Cashin Senior Activity Center in Manchester, NH teaching art classes. Another one of Evelyn’s loves was cooking and baking. She prided herself in hand making all of her food, and sharing it with her family. She always had a baked good on her counter for company to eat, and no one ever left her house hungry.
Evelyn is survived by her two children Scott and Keith Whitehead, her sister, Marilyn Johnson, her grandchildren Sam and Lindsey, and multiple nieces and nephews.
No public services will be held at this time. The family will gather privately for a remembrance of her life. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, where she will be reunited with her husband John “Jack” Whitehead.
