FERN SEIDEL FOSTER
WHITEFIELD, NH -- Fern Seidel Foster, a four year resident of The Morrison nursing home, formerly a resident of The Riverglen House in Littleton, and formerly of St. Michaels, MD passed away peacefully on May 30, 2012 after a long bout with Parkinson's disease.
Fern Olive Botzum was born in Reading, PA on July 31, 1916 second daughter to Mary Shalter Botzum and Willard Adam Botzum, Sr. On June 17, 1939 she married James Edwin Seidel Sr. She was employed by Bell Telephone of PA, and then moved to the Washington, DC area in 1942 where she transferred to AT&T as a switchboard operator.
Fern taught Sunday School, was active in community affairs, became a Cub Scout den mother, and participated in PTA. In 1975, Fern and Jimmie retired to McDaniel, MD on the Eastern Shore where they enjoyed boating, fishing, and especially hard and soft crabs. She enjoyed playing the organ, piano, and even the accordion. An avid card player, she kept her opponents off guard whether it was Pinochle or Bridge. Jimmie passed away on June 22, 1988 of congestive heart failure.
Fern was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in St. Michaels, MD where she met Fred Foster, "the Mayor of Chestnut Street." They were married on September 15, 1989. She became a docent of the church, busying herself with monthly mailings and helping at the church rummage sales. She served on the Board of St. Mary's Square Museum. Mr. Foster passed away on June 29, 1998.
Fern is survived by her son, James E. Seidel of Lyman, NH, 2 grandsons, Eamon of Stevensville, MD and Daniel of Denver, CO and a great-grandson, Jameson by Eamon.
SERVICES -- Memorial Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in St. Michaels, MD on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.
