Florence Elizabeth Staples Dorr, 61, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, died on September 28, 2005, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Her parents were Josetta and Albert Staples of Elliot, Maine. Florence graduated from York, Maine High School in 1962 and then Maine Medical Center School of Nursing, Portland, Maine in 1965. She was also a graduate of the cardiac intensive care nursing program, established at Maine Medical Center in 1968. From 1971 to 1986, Florence lived in Bridgton, Maine and was a nurse at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital. She was a nurse in the cardiac intensive care unit, became the Department Head of ICU, and a night supervisor through the years. She moved to Merrimack, New Hampshire with her family in 1986, and continued in nursing until her retirement in 1996. Florence was artistically talented and enjoyed many hobbies including rug hooking, knitting, stenciling and gardening. She was active in the English Springer Spaniel Rescue and Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue as well. She greatly enjoyed her time camping in Vermont, and being with her dogs. Florence is survived by her husband Russell of Merrimack, New Hampshire, Katherine Gregg of Vero Beach, Florida, Merrill Roy of Manchester, New Hampshire, and 3 grandchildren. Also her brothers Thomas and James Staples, and her sisters Mary Edmunds and Jane Styer. There will be a Memorial Service celebrating her wonderful character and life to be held at the Massabesic Audubon Center, 26 Audubon Way, Auburn, New Hampshire on Monday, October 3, at 1 PM.
