Floyd “Shorty” Irwin Cooper, devoted Husband, Father, and loyal friend, passed away with his daughters by his side at the All-American Assisted Living, Kingston, NH on April 10, 2025. Floyd was born in Pittsburg, PA on November 5, 1938, to Floyd G. Cooper and Rhoda (Richards) Cooper. He spent his youth in North Huntingdon, PA with his lifelong friends George Ekin (wife Leslie), Rich Garvin (wife Kathy), and Rich Llewellyn (wife Cathy).
Upon graduating high school, he served in the US Navy from 1956 until 1959, from which he was honorably discharged. After leaving the Navy, he began a 40+ year career at Mack Trucks. Inc in Hagerstown, MD in the shipping/receiving department until his retirement.
Floyd, always the social butterfly, never met a stranger, and made friends wherever he went. After work he would ride his Triumph Motorcycle to the family-owned Piquant Pig Restaurant & Bar. It was there that he joined a Billiards Pool league as an excuse to spend more time with the lovely barmaid, Deidre (Horowitz). Ultimately, this idea worked, and Deidre "Dee" became his bride. They spent 52 years together, traveling the country, going to community theater, and popping in on friends and family along the way until her death in 2023. Throughout the years, Floyd always kept himself busy with his involvement in clubs such as Hagerstown’s local Elks, Moose, Redman, Golden Bulldogs, Amvets, VFW, Legion and various bowling leagues.
Floyd leaves behind three daughters, Dawn Houpt and her husband Corry, Kristi Minihane and her husband John, and Phoenix LeDoux; as well as three grandchildren, Penelope, Aden, and Kiera.
Services will be held at a future date in Hagerstown, MD. Please email Kristi for more details at Firwincooper@gmail.com.
Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Hampton. To view Floyd's Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com.
