Forrest Wayne Wagner, 64, passed away peacefully on December 12th, 2021, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Keene, NH.
Forrest, who went by his middle name Wayne, was born in Quantico, Virginia on January 16, 1957. He grew up in Norfolk, Virginia with his loving family and enjoyed playing outside with his brothers, Randy and Dan. At nineteen he enlisted in the Navy, serving as a Hospital Corpsman out of Norfolk, Virginia and San Diego, California. In his youth, Wayne had many friends and adventures, including hitchhiking across the country and relaxing in the beautiful pastures of Puerto Rico.
Wayne continued his service to others throughout his entire life which brought him to New Hampshire in the late '80s to work at Pheonix House Rehab Center at both it’s Keene and Dublin locations. He cared deeply for his clients and enjoyed meeting folks from all walks of life.
In 2000, Wayne met his longtime partner Bonnie LaPointe while both working as Direct Care Support professionals for Monadnock Worksource, assisting adults with high support needs. They enjoyed a beautiful 15 years together and Wayne became a part of her family, helping to raise Bonnie's two kids Molly & Devon. Together they enjoyed traveling to Disney world, swimming in Maine, and visiting Wayne's family in Virginia. In 2010, he was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of visiting Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany.
Wayne is predeceased by his father, Morris Wagner of Appomaddox, Virginia, his mother Patricia Wagner (Benfield) of North Carolina, and his longtime partner Bonnie LaPointe of Hancock, NH. In addition to many heartbroken friends and family, Wayne leaves behind his brothers, Randy Wagner of Moab, Utah, and Dan Wagner and his wife Donna of Virginia, their children, Kyle Wagner and Danielle Wagner. His mother-in-law, Jeanne LaPointe of Hillsboro NH, his two step children he raised, Molly Skerry, Exeter, NH and Devon Skerry of Barrington NH.
Affectionately nicknamed "Uncle Pickle", Wayne was a loving role model to his extended nieces, Danielle & Natalie LaPointe, and dear friend to sister-in-law Diane LaPointe.
The family cats, Momma Kitty and Bonzo will miss cuddling on his lap.
In April 2018, Wayne was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and given six months to live. He defied the odds to enjoy two more years with us, never folding to the pressure of his illness, full of grace and hope.
You could easily find Wayne strolling downtown Hancock & along the Depot Trail. He enjoyed reading, poker, and the musical stylings of Frank Sinatra & The Beatles. He cared deeply for the world and all it’s creatures.
A Graveside Committal Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 6, 2022, at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen, NH. lieu of flowers, Wayne has requested donations on his behalf to Liberty House, Manchester, NH, which supports homeless New Hampshire Veterans.
